Personal History
Mia serves as an engineer within the 8th Squad of the United Development Territory Security Bureau, aged eighteen. She appears reserved and gentle, seldom revealing her emotions. She carries out her hazardous duties with unwavering composure and calm, occasionally pushing herself beyond her limits. Yet fundamentally, Mia possesses a remarkably sharp intellect, capable of surprising others when given the chance to express herself. She is also the squad's ingenious inventor, providing numerous practical, improvised tools for the unit's advanced equipment, which is notoriously difficult to procure.
Among the current members ofthe 8th Squad, Mia was the last to join. Yet her standing is remarkably high, to her teammates, particularly Karin and Lisa, she appears as an all-round genius. Any profound scientific conundrum or intricate technical apparatus that leaves them utterly baffled, Mia grasps instantly. In their efforts to persuade Mia to assist them more frequently, Karin and Lisa have competed to heap praise upon her through their titles: first calling her "the expert", then "associate doctor", then "doctor", and now they've progressed to "academic".
Mia was a top-tier student during her school days. Not only did she achieve top marks in every subject, but she was also a gold medallist in both the Mathematical Olympiad and the Ruvila Sea Youth Model Sailing Championship. Problems that stumped Karin and Lisa seemed effortlessly solvable to her. However, Elena always forbade the team from over-relying on Mia's intellect and technical skills. She had long observed that Mia never seemed to refuse anyone's requests and appeared unaware of her own limitations.
Lisa had once half-jokingly expressed envy for Karin's abilities, wishing for a night vision device that fused starlight and infrared. Mia, however, took it seriously and began scouring resources, gathering components and conducting experiments day and night. She was determined to handcraft a thermal fusion night vision device, a technology not yet matured on Earth. Elena gave Lisa a stern telling-off over this, but Mia was already utterly immersed in the world of night vision. She insisted the principle was entirely sound, the technical pathways were largely mapped out and a working prototype would be ready soon. Elena was forced to persuade her to abandon the project using arguments Mia could accept: even if such a device were built, its weight and size would exceed practical limits, rendering it impractical.
However, despite being completely different types of people and often causing each other trouble, Mia and Lisa shared an exceptionally close bond. Mia herself was profoundly reserved, seldom expressing her opinions. When conversing with others, she tended to listen rather than speak, which often left most people feeling awkward. Yet the carefree Lisa remains utterly oblivious to this, endlessly trotting out her witty remarks, with Mia serving as her devoted listener. In truth, Mia possesses a remarkably sharp mind, grasping Lisa's humour instantly and finding genuine amusement in it.
Mia's focus and dedication were frequently exploited (often at the instigation of others), ample proof that her primary duties proved too straightforward for her: as an engineer, her role involved handling all manner of mines and explosives, both standard and improvised. When handling these perils, Mia neither thrilled nor flinched, always executing her duties with unhurried composure and cool-headed precision. Upon joining the unit, lacking foundational training, she performed poorly in physical fitness and tactical drills. Yet through dogged perseverance, she swiftly matched her comrades' proficiency.
Though rarely vocal, Mia occasionally proposed her own creative ideas. Because her mind worked too fast, these were often technically feasible concepts that proved impractical in reality: such as fixing earth-penetrating demolition charges to walls to bombard entrenched enemies, or using controlled demolition techniques to collapse buildings "selectively", or using violent shaking to incapacitate hostage-takers without harming the hostages... Essentially, they all revolve around explosives. Elena believes the reason lies in Mia's current obsession with explosives. Had she been trained as a sniper, she'd likely share Claudia's desire to eliminate every villain in the world one shot at a time.
When recruiting engineers for the 8th Squad, Elena had already made up her mind: if no experienced hands were available, she'd have to find a "bookworm" to train. Given that the role involved handling various equipment and hazardous explosives, it demanded someone with clear, cool thinking and strong focus, qualities typically found in those adept at scholarly pursuits. But conversely, such individuals were also likely to be the unattainable "elite talent" for Squad Eight. Mia was precisely such a person.
Mia's parents were originally low-ranking civil servants within the Union's central ministries. They aspired to cultivate their daughter, who had excelled academically and morally since childhood, into an elite figure at the Alliance's national level. However, competition in the capital, Vladimir, proved too fierce. Neither Mia's innate talent nor her family's resources could guarantee her admission to the finest universities. The Alliance, however, extended special provisions for the children of jointly assigned personnel. Mia's parents thus sought this avenue, to secure their daughter's advancement, nor the family's backing could guarantee her admission to the finest universities. The Federation, however, extended special consideration to children of personnel posted to the United Territories. Mia's parents thus sought this avenue, to secure their daughter's advancement, they voluntarily applied for a transfer to work within the United Territories.
However, the dissolution of the Union and the ensuing civil war utterly shattered Mia's carefully charted path to advancement. It was under these circumstances that Elena's invitation held such persuasive weight: the United Territories now relied on the Security Bureau for self-defence, making it a department of paramount importance for the future. Moreover, in the current climate, having a child employed within the Security Bureau offered considerable security for the family. With the path to university on Earth now closed, Mia could instead aspire to advancement within the United Territories' Administrative Council system: enlisting as a non-commissioned officer after six months, receiving commendations after two years, transitioning to commissioned officer after three, then succeeding Elena as Squad Leader of the 8th Squad within five years. This would pave the way to Director of Operations, Deputy Director of the Security Bureau, Director and ultimately...
Elena's depiction of the career advancement path had persuaded Mia's family, but what did Mia herself think? Even Elena couldn't be certain: perhaps because she was still young, hadn't given it much thought yet, hadn't yet encountered the limits of her own abilities, hadn't yet realised there were things she simply couldn't do. So, she wasn't entirely sure what she truly wanted to do either...

Mia is an engineer in the 8th Squad of the Joint Development and Defense Bureau. She is reserved and gentle, always calm and collected in completing her dangerous tasks. She is also the squad's inventive genius, providing the squad with many practical and adaptable gadgets that are hard to come by due to the difficulty in acquiring advanced equipment.
Mia was the last member to join the current the 8th Squad. However, her status is quite high, Mia was a top student in high school, not only getting perfect scores in all her subjects but also winning gold medals in the Mathematical Olympiad and the Ruvilian Sea Youth Sailing Model Championship. As an engineer, her task is to deal with various landmines and bombs, and when dealing with these dangerous things, Mia always remains calm and composed.
In Karin and Lisa's eyes, Mia was simply an omnipotent genius. She could instantly grasp any profound scientific problem or complex technological device that left them speechless. To persuade Mia to help them solve their problems, Karin and Lisa vied to flatter her: first calling her "Expert," then "Associate Doctor," then "Doctor," and now "Academician."
When recruiting engineers for the 8th Squad, Elena decided to train a "scholar", someone with clear thinking, composure, and strong focus. Mia's parents were civil servants from the Union, seconded to the United Territory. They especially hoped that the academically excellent Mia would attend a prestigious university and become a national manager. However, the collapse of the Union and the subsequent civil war shattered Mia's planned path to success. At this time, Elena extended a very persuasive invitation: Mia could rise through the ranks within the United Territory's Management Committee system. She could become a sergeant after six months of service, receive awards after two years, become an officer after three years, and then succeed Elena as captain of the 8th Squad after five years. Then came the positions of Director of Operations, Deputy Director of the Guard Bureau, Director, and alternate member of the Management Committee… Elena's roadmap for advancement convinced Mia's family, but what did Mia herself think?
Even Elena wasn't sure: perhaps it was because she was still young, hadn't thought that far ahead, hadn't yet witnessed the limits of her abilities, and hadn't realized that some things were beyond her control. Therefore, she wasn't sure what she truly wanted…
